Designing a better way to earn healthcare certifications

Healthcare education often combines dense subject matter, structured curricula, assessments, certifications, and compliance requirements. Healthcare Matters was created to bring these experiences into a more cohesive digital environment that makes professional learning easier to discover, navigate, and complete.

The goal was to create a platform that felt less like a traditional learning management system and more like a modern digital education product.

Challenge

How might we make healthcare education easier to navigate without oversimplifying the content?

The challenge was balancing the complexity of healthcare education with the simplicity users expect from modern digital products. The experience needed to support structured learning and certification while making it easy for users to understand where they were, what they needed to do, and what came next.

Results

Healthcare Matters transformed a complex set of educational and certification requirements into a structured product experience spanning course discovery, learning, assessment, progress, and completion.

The result was a 0→1 healthcare education platform designed and developed end-to-end, providing a scalable foundation for additional courses, educational content, and certification experiences.

Process

Research & Analysis: Researched healthcare education, certification, LMS, and online learning products to understand learner expectations and identify friction across course discovery and completion. Findings shaped the product strategy, content structure, and core learning experience.

Information Architecture: Defined the platform's information architecture around courses, modules, lessons, assessments, progress, and certification. Structured the experience around a clear learner journey from Discover → Learn → Assess → Complete → Certify.

Wireframing & Prototyping: Mapped the core learner journey across course discovery, enrollment, learning, assessment, and certification, then translated workflows into low-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes. Iterated on navigation, content hierarchy, and interaction patterns to validate the experience and reduce friction before development.

Usability Testing: Evaluated prototypes and key workflows to identify friction in navigation, course comprehension, progress visibility, and task completion. Feedback informed iterative improvements to terminology, hierarchy, navigation, and learning flows.

Visual Design & Style Guide: Translated validated UX into a cohesive visual system balancing healthcare credibility with an approachable learning experience. Developed high-fidelity interfaces and a reusable style guide covering typography, color, spacing, components, and responsive patterns across the platform.

“I was honestly surprised by how easy it was to get through the course. The material is pretty dense, but the way everything is organized made it easy to know what I needed to do, where I was in the course, and what was coming next.”

Conclusion

Healthcare Matters was an opportunity to rethink how professional healthcare education could work as a modern digital experience. I took the product from concept through UX architecture, visual design, development, and launch, focusing on making complex educational content feel structured and approachable.
